Defective Block Rebuilds

Carolina

This straightforward bungalow marked our first home completed under the Irish Defective Concrete Block (DCB) scheme. The existing dwelling was fully demolished and rebuilt in line with scheme requirements and current Irish building regulations, with the completed home handed back to the homeowner within nine months of commencement.

The homeowner chose to retain a familiar and reliable oil-fired heating system, prioritising simplicity and ease of maintenance, while focusing investment on improving the thermal performance of the building fabric. To achieve this, all external walls were dry-lined internally, significantly reducing heat loss and improving overall comfort throughout the home.

These insulation upgrades allowed the homeowner to avail of the SEAI dry-lining grant, supporting improved energy efficiency as part of the rebuild process.

The completed project delivers a safe, durable, and energy-efficient home, demonstrating that defective concrete block rebuilds do not have to be complex to be effective—offering homeowners a compliant, timely, and practical solution with meaningful long-term benefits.
